“Refined and powerful — a Chardonnay with structure, length, and grace.”
› Tasting Notes
Bright straw with clear hues. A complex nose of peach, nectarine, flint, and subtle floral perfume. The palate is full and textural with layers of citrus and stone fruit. Concentrated and finely balanced, there's a touch of nougat that carries into a long, zesty lemon-mineral finish. Cellaring potential through 2028.
› Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with roasted chicken, crayfish or creamy seafood pasta, and hard cheeses like Comté.
› About the Producer
In Māori, the name ‘Akarua’ means two vines—Pinot Noir and Chardonnay—first planted in 1996 by Sir Clifford Skeggs. These now represent 78.5% and 2% of the estate's vineyard holdings. Small parcels of Pinot Gris and Riesling complete the offering.
Now under Edmond de Rothschild Heritage, Akarua’s mission is to realise the full potential of this remarkable single estate in Central Otago. Combining local know-how with global winemaking expertise, the goal is to produce elegant, expressive wines that stand as benchmarks both locally and internationally.
