Central Otago | Bannockburn Estate | Cellar-worthy Chardonnay
Tasting Notes
Bright straw with clear hues. A complex nose of peach, nectarine, flint and perfume. The palate is full and textural with complex citrus and stone fruit. The wine is concentrated and finely balanced. There is a touch of nougat that leads to a long, zesty lemon and mineral finish. Cellaring through 2028.
A structured, age-worthy Chardonnay from one of Central Otago's defining estates.
Why you'll love it: it has the concentration and flinty complexity of a serious Chardonnay, with the balance to drink beautifully now or hold for a few years.
About Akarua
Akarua is a pioneering Bannockburn estate, founded in 1996 and one of the largest family-grown operations in Central Otago. Its name means 'two vines' in Māori, a nod to the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay first planted on the Cairnmuir site. Since 2022 it has been owned by Edmond de Rothschild Heritage, which is converting the estate to certified organics, and the wines remain estate-grown beneath the foothills of the Bannockburn range.
Perfect with roast chicken, pan-fried fish, or a creamy mushroom risotto. The texture and length match richer dishes with ease.
