Pure NZ Excellence | Central Otago | Beautiful NZ Wine
Tasting Notes
Exceptional Central Otago Fumé Blanc from a low-yield vintage that produced wonderfully concentrated yet elegant and restrained character. White flowers, lemongrass, and kaffir lime aromatics showcase the distinctive regional expression enhanced by careful barrel work.
The palate shows remarkable intensity and focus with vibrant passionfruit and smoky oak integration. Barrel fermentation and aging creates beautiful texture framed by Central Otago's signature vibrant acidity, delivering impressive drive and length.
A barrel-worked Central Otago Sauvignon of real intensity and length — concentrated, smoky and elegant.
Why you'll love it: if you find most Sauvignon a bit one-note, this is the antidote — barrel work gives it texture and depth to match richer food.
The Awards
Amisfield has earned exceptional recognition in recent years, including the Riedel Vineyard of the Year title at the 2024 New Zealand Organic Wine Awards, following previous wins as Sustainable Vineyard of the Year in 2020, 2022, and 2023. Their commitment to quality has been recognised internationally with Gold Medal wins at the London Wine Competition 2023, and their Pinot Noir consistently scores in the high 90s with Wine Spectator. Most recently, their 2024 Pinot Noir Rosé earned a Gold Medal at the New Zealand Organic Wine Awards 2025.
The Style
Fumé Blanc showcases Sauvignon Blanc enhanced by careful barrel fermentation and aging, adding textural complexity and subtle smokiness while preserving the variety's characteristic vibrancy and aromatic intensity.
About Amisfield
Established in 1988 beneath the Pisa Range, Amisfield has grown into one of Central Otago's defining estates, specialising in Pinot Noir and aromatic whites from a single vineyard. A minimal-intervention philosophy lets the site's character carry through, and the estate has been fully certified organic by BioGro New Zealand since 2021, following a conversion begun in 2015. It's a genuine, restaurant-quality expression of its place.
Perfect with roast chicken, grilled fish, or creamy goat's cheese. The barrel texture and smoky note stand up to richer dishes whilst the acidity keeps it fresh.
