About Muddy Water: Hand-crafted No compromise’ is the maxim behind Muddy Water, a small family-owned estate on the slopes of Omihi, North Canterbury. Planted in 1993 Muddy Water is the oldest certified organic vineyard in Waipara with many ungrafted vines. ‘The world according to Muddy Water should be a cleaner, purer place where wine isn’t made to formula but grown and fermented to reflect the vineyard and season’. The name Muddy Water comes from Waipara meaning water (wai) and sediment (para) reflecting the dark clay soils over limestone that our vines grow on. All wines are grown, vinified and bottled on the estate.
