Nanny Goat Crossbreed is a skin-contact aromatic white, or orange wine, from Central Otago, a textural, savoury and genuinely original style.

Central Otago | Skin-Contact Orange Wine | Beautiful NZ Wine

Tasting Notes

Our 2024 Cross Breed displays lifted aromas of rose water and jasmine leaps from the glass, gradually giving way to notes of preserved apricot and nuances of dried apple. The palate is fruit forward, with ripe stone fruit giving the illusion of sweetness ahead of a saline core of fine, sinewy skin-derived tannin. A bead of bright acidity brings focus, drawing the palate to a long, lingering finish reminiscent of white peach stone and fennel.

An original, savoury skin-contact white that rewards the curious.

Why you'll love it: it is something different for the table, with the texture and grip of a light red but the perfume of an aromatic white, made for adventurous drinkers and good food.

The Blend

A 2024 blend of Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris and Riesling, an aromatic trio given grip and texture through extended skin contact.

The Style

Made much like the estate's Pinot Noir: the fruit is hand-picked and fermented naturally on its skins for around 28 days, which draws out both the wine's gentle orange hue and its fine, savoury, skin-derived tannins.

About Nanny Goat Vineyard

Nanny Goat Vineyard sits in the Queensberry sub-region of Central Otago, on free-draining alluvial terraces above the Clutha River between Cromwell and Wanaka. The estate was planted in 2004 and 2005 and has been fully certified organic with BioGro since 2019, alongside Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand accreditation. Winemaker Alan Peters-Oswald, who grew up nearby in Roxburgh, focuses on single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that speak clearly of this rugged, cool-climate place. Each vintage the standout parcels go into the flagship Super Nanny Pinot Noir.

Perfect with roast pork, spiced Middle Eastern dishes, or a washed-rind cheese. The texture and savoury grip stand up to bold, aromatic food.
