Medium-bodied elegance | Heritage French varietal | Perfect for red meat & game dishes
Tasting Notes
Rich inky purple. Aromas of crushed black berries, liquorice and anise spice. A palate of purple velvet presents complex flavours of salted molasses caramel, liquorice and Doris plum syrup. (pronounced "carmen-yair").
Hand-crafted along Gisborne's Golden Slope - New Zealand's answer to Burgundy's Côtes d'Or.
The Varietal
Originally from France, Carménère found its true home in Chile where it was famously mistaken for Merlot for decades until DNA testing revealed its true identity. This heritage grape delivers the supple character that Merlot lovers adore, enhanced by distinctive herbaceous complexity.
Featured in our Americas collection, Carménère's strong association with Chilean terroir and cuisine makes it particularly brilliant with spiced dishes and chilli-based cooking - a perfect match for bold, flavourful food.
